Activities
- What is Field Day?
- On field day, Board Members, coaches, parents, and older children are asked to come to the ball field to help clean pick up, fix up, and generally work to make the field look its best. You are encouraged to show up in comfortable clothes and lend a hand.
- What is the Jamboree?
- The Jamboree is the kick off for the WDT baseball/softball season. There will be a parade, Opening Day ball games, and a lot of activities which show off what a great league WDT is. It is a lot of fun for the kids.
- What is Fun day?
- Fun Day is an event involving games, raffles, and special food delights. It's a great time for the entire family.
Coaching
- What do I need to do if I want to manage or coach a team?
- First, you need to fill out the Little League Volunteer Application and send it to us along with a copy of your government issued ID.
- I am coaching for the first time this year, what should I do?
- For drills, practice tips, etc, there are numerous videos available to give you ideas. There are also several free, or inexpensive clinics offered in town year round that can give you many tips for working with the kids. If you are unsure about something going on in the league, talk with the vice president of your division, and he/she will either give you an answer, or direct you to someone who can. These Board Members want to hear from you.
- Why do I have to umpire at other levels than the one I coach?
- In a work environment, this is known as cross-training. It helps out the league, because there is always a shortage of umpires, but also gives coaches an opportunity to get involved with parts of the league that they would not otherwise experience. It also avoids a possible conflict of interest with a coach umpiring teams from their own league. You are encouraged to familiarize yourself with basic rules of for the level you will be Umpiring before the game. Speaking with the coaches ahead of time can be helpful.
General
- Where are the WDT diamonds?
- 71st and Ditch Road. Pull in to the Westlane Middle School parking lot and follow it around to the right side. The entrance is next to the school bus garage. Check out the Diamonds page for more details on WDT Diamond locations.
- How do I find out if a game has been rained out?
- Game delays and postponements are posted on the Home Page as soon as possible. When a game is delayed or postponed we also send out an e-mail to all the families involved in a game that day if we have an e-mail address for them. If you need to update your e-mail you can do so by entering the parent area of the Web site and going to the registration section. You can also sign-up for "Text Message Alerts" while in the Parent area.
- Can everyone park their car by the concession stand?
- We ask that only persons with a handicapped plate or placard, Board Members, and League and District Umpires use the parking area beside the concession stand.
- What is the difference between manager and coach?
- The Manager is in charge of your child's team, and is assisted by one or more coaches. The Manager is sometimes also refereed to as a coach because he/she also performs the same duties as the coaches.
- I signed my child up, but have not paid yet. Where should I send my money?
- It is important that you send in your payment as soon as possible. Registration is not complete and players are not assigned to a team until payment has been received. Mail it to: Westlane Delaware Trails Little League P.O. Box 40493 Indianapolis, Indiana 46240 Checks should be made payable to "Westlane Delaware Trail LL."
- How can I find a member of the Board of Directors?
- Ask at the concession stand. There is always a board member in the ball park, and many are involved in coaching, umpiring, or other duties.
Parents
- What does the Team Parent do?
- Your Team Parent is an important member your child's team who coordinates gathering picture forms, token money, concession stand duties, and other things, which allows you team's Manager and coaches to concentrate on teaching your children.
- Why do I have to work the concession stand?
- The concession stand is an important source of income for the league, but because the coaches and other members of the little league are busy making sure your child is having the best possible experience, they need your help. It is an easy, fun job, and only requires a few hours over the course of the entire season from you. If you are unable to work the concession stand on the date assigned, work with your team parent to switch with another parent. We also have some high school kids who will work your shift for a price of less than $10 per hour, but that will require pre-planning. One of the things we, as parents, want to do is to encourage our children to get involved with their community. Working the concession stand shows them getting involved can be not only easy, but fun. If you have extra time and would like to help with concession stand, talk with the Board Member of The Day, who is frequently at the concession stand during games.
Sponsorship
- How can I become a sponsor?
- The easiest way to become a sponsor is to complete our online sponsorship application. You can also contact a member of the board about sponsorship opportunities.
- My company would like to sponsor a team, but the season has already started.
- You may sponsor a scoreboard, as backstop, a dugout, or other things. There are always plenty of opportunities.
Teams
- How are teams chosen?
- Players are drafted to teams based upon the age and ability of the player. Little League sets specific age ranges for the different divisions of play, some of which overlap. A player who is of an age that could play in two different divisions is drafted to one of those divisions based on ability. If a parent is coaching, their child will automatically be assigned to their team, unless the familiy wants their child on a different team.
Volunteering
- I'd be happy to donate some extra time to help out with the league. Who should I contact?
- If you want to help with your child's team, speak with his/her Manager. Otherwise one of the Board Members will direct you to the right person to talk to. Keep in mind that you will be asked to fill out a 2011 Little League Volunteer Applications. This is a non-profit community organization. Volunteering is what makes it work.
- Can I help on Field Day?
- The more the merrier. Come to the ball fields to help clean, pick up, fix up, and generally work to make the fields look its best. You are encouraged to show up in comfortable clothes and lend a hand.
